Extraction of a strange Body and Preservation of the Seventh Nerve for a Patient at Benha University Hospital
A medical team at Benha University Hospitals successfully performed a precise surgical intervention for a patient suffering from severe swelling in the right cheek and a purulent infection from an old wound resulting from a traffic accident, as the patient did not respond to initial treatment.
This was conducted under the supervision of:
• Professor Nasser El-Gizawy, President of Benha University,
• Professor Mohamed El-Ashhab, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of University Hospitals,
• Prof. Amr El-Dakhakhni, Executive Director of Benha University Hospitals,
• Prof. Samer Badi, Head of the Department of Otolaryngology,
• Prof. Ihab Said, Head of the Anesthesia Department.
After conducting thorough examinations and imaging, it was found that there was a foreign body lodged beneath the parotid gland and above the jawbone, necessitating immediate surgical intervention under general anesthesia.
The medical team successfully extracted the foreign body, which turned out to be a wooden piece, while completely preserving the seventh nerve responsible for facial muscle movement without any complications.
The medical team confirmed that the patient's condition stabilized completely after the operation, and the patient is currently under medical follow-up until full recovery.
The hospital management expressed appreciation for the surgical, anesthesia, and nursing teams for their efforts in this medical success, which reflects the efficiency of Benha University Hospitals in handling delicate and complex cases.
